They were lush, colorful and the quality was outstanding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spearheaded by Japanese-Canadian floral educator Hitomi Gilliam, AIFD, EMC, founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/emcprogram.com\/\">European Master Certification<\/a> program, Tropical Nouveau pairs traditional offerings like roses, hydrangeas, gerberas, carnations, and chrysanthemums with more unusual products (birds of paradise, tropical foliage, orchids or proteas, for instance), which many people associate with dreamy destinations, such as Hawaii or the Florida Keys.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3004 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1-245x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1-245x300.jpg 245w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1-768x942.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1-835x1024.jpg 835w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/DSC00742C1.jpg 1044w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThink of it as the floral take on fusion cuisine,\u201d said Neville MacKay, CAFA, PFCI, of My Mother\u2019s Bloomers in Halifax, Novia Scotia, who has led Tropical Nouveau presentations with Gilliam. \u201cIncorporating exotic flowers gives an arrangement dimension and interest, just like unexpected ingredients do for food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The chic style has an exceptionally high perceived value, seasoned designers say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTropical flowers, often sleek and graphic, are perfect with modern d\u00e9cor, said Eileen W. Johnson, author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tropical-Flowers-Eileen-Johnson\/dp\/1423624203\"><em>Tropical Flowers<\/em><\/a> and the founder and creative director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flowerschoolny.com\/\">FlowerSchool New York<\/a>. \u201cThey are the flowers du jour for many stylish people. The flowers are usually long lasting and easy to work with for our students.\u00a0 They are standouts in many of our arrangements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pma.com\/~\/media\/pma-files\/research-and-development\/floral-trends-report.pdf?la=en\">Research by Prince and Prince<\/a> points to increased demand in the U.S. for cut tropical flowers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsumer sales of tropical cut flowers are projected to exceed half a billion dollars in key markets such as New York this year,\u201d Garcia said.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the event, guests had the opportunity to speak with the company owners and growers, including Jan Valstar of Holland and Jose Gonzalez of Guatemala.<\/p>\n<p>Designer Cut Flowers are available to the trade only and ship direct.
