stairs<\/li>\n<li>Floral arches, collages, and centerpieces galore<\/li>\n<li>Client testimonials etched on cocktail napkins and a front entrance carpet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a over craft cocktails and heavy hors d&#8217;oeuvres, guests were directed through a backdoor, revealing a ballroom festooned with even more flowers, lounge seating areas (a Botanica specialty), and a stage set with a seven-piece band.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Prosser, Botanica\u2019s flower buyer, and Zo\u00eb Gallina, AAF, the company\u2019s creative designer, took a few minutes to greet guests, reminisce about growing up in the flower industry, and share their journeys in the family business before introducing the man of the hour, their father, Ian Prosser, AAF, AIFD, PFCI.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7025.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3022 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7025-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7025-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7025-768x513.jpg 768w, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to serving as the choice florist for discerning brides in central and Southwest Florida, Prosser has achieved international acclaim for his design skills and service to the industry. Among his resume highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Floral Designer of the Year (Scotland)<\/li>\n<li>National Diploma of the Society of Floristry (the highest European honor in floral design)<\/li>\n<li>Sylvia Cup Champion<\/li>\n<li>Paul Ecke, Jr. Award winner<\/li>\n<li>Presidential inaugurations for Bill Clinton and George W. Bush<\/li>\n<li>Design team member for the Society of American Florists\u2019 annual convention<\/li>\n<li>FTD educator<\/li>\n<li>Mainstage presenter at the American Institute of Floral Designer annual symposium<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cEverybody who knows me, knows I\u2019m a mush ball,\u201d he said to the crowd, fighting back tears. \u201cMy job tonight is to give you a little history about where this business came from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While a teenager, Prosser encountered an elderly woman who seemed neglected. He struck up a friendship.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One day he asked her, \u201cWhat\u2019s the one thing you\u2019ve always wanted to do but have never tried?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her answer: floral design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3026 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105-768x1149.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105-684x1024.jpg 684w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7031-e1548359127105.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo I found a flower arranging class, at the ripe age of 15, and I went with her every Tuesday night,\u201d Prosser said.<\/p>\n<p>The experience inspired a career in floristry, much to his father\u2019s chagrin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was supposed to go to the University of Glasgow and study fashion. My dad was annoyed I chose to enter a \u2018sissy\u2019 industry instead,\u201d Prosser recalled with a laugh. \u201cBut his negativity actually lit a fire under me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Scotland, Prosser ran three shops with his wife, Fiona, AAF, when the couple decided to move to the United States, \u201cwhere the streets were paved with gold.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3016 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018-1024x684.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/IMG_7018.jpg 1616w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He started working at Bachelor Button, then Tampa\u2019s premier florist, where he became shop manager after a week. Three years later, at his wife\u2019s encouragement, he opened his own retail shop in an 800-square-foot space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy parents had two young children and a third\u2014me\u2014on the way at the time,\u201d said Jordan Prosser. \u201cSo this was quite a lot to take on!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Botanica\u2019s retail business grew and relocated around Tampa several times until 2007, when the Prossers decided to do events only and moved into a warehouse facility.<\/p>\n<p>The company has continued to evolve, growing from purely floral design to full production (think: custom flooring, lighting, furnishings, etc.). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/florists\/botanica-expand-event-empire\">In late 2017, Botanica launched a sister business, \u201cStyleHouse,\u201d<\/a> which rents Botanica\u2019s vast inventory of furniture and accessories to other florists or corporations.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_3027\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3027\"
