Plants.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9387.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3041 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9387-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9387-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9387.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlants have been found to be a great form of therapy,\u201d said Deneen Wang, a member of Campus Diplomats, the program\u2019s organizer, whose mission is to cultivate a culture of health and wellness for students and faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Wang learned of plants\u2019 calming qualities through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegiateplantinitiative.org\/\">Collegiate Plant Initiative<\/a>, a now-national organization founded at UF in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The group, which partners with several floriculture companies and organizations, conducts and shares scientific research about plants (and flowers), demonstrates experience the joy of green gifts through biannual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegiateplantinitiative.org\/plantdrops\">\u201cplant drops,&#8221;<\/a> and encourages students to consider a career in horticulture, no matter their major.<\/p>\n<p>CPI recently received a grant from the <a href=\"https:\/\/endowment.org\/\">American Floral Endowment<\/a> and has been profiled in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenhousegrower.com\/management\/collegiate-plant-initiative-helps-foster-a-love-of-plants-among-students\/\">Greenhouse Grower<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/safnow.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/FM-Sept18-Feature1.pdf\">Floral Management<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Valentine\u2019s Day, the focus is usually about love between couples,\u201d Wang said. \u201cBut it\u2019s extremely important that you love yourself first before you love anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Throughout February 14, the diplomats sat at tables with candy and stickers that promoted self-love. They encouraged passersby to look in a mirror and write a note about what they love about themselves. \u201cIf any of the existing notes resonated with people, they were allowed to take them,\u201d Wang said.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9381.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3039 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9381-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9381-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9381.jpg 431w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event concluded that evening with a plant giveaway \u2014 with one small caveat. People had to write a love letter to themselves to \u201cearn\u201d a plant.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Frazier, executive director of CPI, said the organization fields many requests from other student groups interested in partnering. \u201cUnfortunately, we don\u2019t have the means to accept all of them,\u201d she said. \u201cThis event, however, seemed to align really well with what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9382.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3040 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9382-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9382-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.florist20.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/IMG_9382.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>\u201cWe know that people report feeling better when given a plant,\u201d Frazier said. \u201cWe also want to encourage people to gift themselves plants and flowers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Valentine\u2019s Day, about 70 students at the University of Florida gathered to celebrate love \u2014 specifically, self-love.
