'Blushing Parasol', a spray rose from Eufloria Flowers in Nipomo, Calif., took top prize today in the 2014 SAF Outstanding Varieties Competition, held in Marco Island, Fla.
"It hit all the categories," said judge Peter van Antwerpen, of Virgin Farms in Miami, Fla. "It has strong stems and flawless foliage. Its buds open uniformly. It's a marketable color. And it has a 'wow factor' that would make a customer take notice if they saw it in a cooler."
"I lobbied hard for this one," said judge Eleanor Clevenger, of David Austin Roses in Miami, Fla. "Look at the number of blossoms -- phenomenal! It's a really upscale, garden-y look that's very in vogue right now."
"I posted this on instagram two hours ago and already have 60 likes," said judge Joost Bongaerts of Florabundance Inc. in Carpinteria, Calif.
