Kick Off Summer With Wacky Sales Events

Father’s Day is a wonderful holiday for recognizing our dads (or the men in our lives who have treated us like dads). For florists, though, it’s one holiday that doesn’t get a lot of interest from consumers. So if you don’t market this manly event, you may be looking for some other ideas to generate sales during the month of June. (For those who haven’t given up hope for some Father’s Day sales, though, check out the new Facebook graphic, below. FlowerChat developed it specifically for you to post on your Facebook business page.)

So, what are some of the unique options that might induce customers to make an order during this kick-off month to summer? We’ve culled the weird, wonderful and wacky offerings of the web to compile a list of June occasions. Several of them offer opportunities for marketing to specific niches of your community, depending on your demographic. For example, June is Gay Pride Month. That celebration obviously lends itself to florists in communities with a large gay clientele. Perhaps you could cater to this demo by creating a bouquet and offering to donate a portion of its sales to a cause such as Aids Awareness?

June is also Rose Month (and June 12 is Red Rose Day), making it the perfect opportunity to offer some special prices on rose bouquets or single-stem sales.

Have a shop in a rural area or region with a lot of farms? Perhaps you could develop a promotion in support of June’s Dairy Month. Or, for a Candy Month marketing effort, create a bouquet that incorporates chocolate kisses, licorice whips or suckers.

(June is also National Accordion Awareness Month. But we’re going to guess that holiday might generate even less interest than Father’s Day…)

June 18’s National Splurge Day lends itself toward a promotion encouraging your customers to treat themselves to flowers. National Pink Day on June 23? How about a special discount on all pink flowers? For Beautician’s Day, on June 26, contact local salons and offer them a special to give each of their stylists a special floral arrangement.

What else is going on in June? Here’s a list of some of the other crazy “celebrations” this month. If they don’t necessarily lend themselves toward the basis of a special promotion, then they’re good for a laugh, in a blog post on your website or for inclusion in your next e-newsletter.
