Make the Most of Mobile Marketing

In 2012, the number of U.S. tablet users hit 70 million, and smartphone users worldwide surpassed one billion. The pressure to make marketing content mobile-friendly continues to increase.

Embracing mobile may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are three easy steps to reap the benefits of mobile marketing.

Make your website mobile-friendly.
One-third of webpage views now happen on mobile devices, so if your website isn’t mobile-friendly, you are turning away potential customers, especially those who arrive through local search. Create a mobile version of your site with the free or inexpensive tools available. Display important information clearly and keep your mobile site as straightforward as possible. Avoid Flash and PDFs, and avoid having too many pages to navigate. A mobile website with long load time or difficult navigation results in customers taking their business elsewhere.

Embrace mobile-marketing tools.
Use mobile-specific marketing tools to reach more customers. QR codes make it easy for smartphone users to quickly access information about your business. When smartphone users scan the QR code, you automatically direct them to the online destination of your choice—a specific campaign, or your Twitter page, for example. Search for “QR code generator” on Google for free QR tools.

Use mobile for your benefit too!
Mobile devices don’t make things easier for customers. But you can use mobile tools to make your marketing easier and more efficient.
Maintaining an up-to-date presence across your business’s social channels can be hard when you’re on the go, as many marketers often are. Facebook Pages Manager is a free app that helps to update your business page on any mobile device without logging into your personal account. Twitter’s mobile app allows the same functionality, especially helpful when live-tweeting events or responding to breaking news on the go.
