According to search guru Danny Sulllivan, results from a recent eye movement study by Microsoft's team show an interesting set of results. Though limited to only 18 participants, the eye tracking showed the importance of placing among the top 5 results for a query.

There's lots of other data about the size of snippets, the names of URLs, and the difference between searchers looking products vs information. If you're a search geek, you'll love this stuff.
