Yesterday, I downloaded my latest WS directories from my software vendor.

I have noticed a huge change in FTD. The last update showed 84K records and the new update shows 79K records.

This is down from some 100K plus records only a year or so ago.


If this database download is any indication of trends, I would say this trend is definitely on a downward spiral for FTD.

not necessarily.....sometimes, actually MANY times, a substantial number of "records" remain unaltered....and most of the time, it's at this time of the year!!
 
I should be gone (and a bunch of florists who have called me about my letter of termination were also in touch before the directory cut off date) so there's at least one !! And I've suspended my merc because it kept screwing up trying to do a database clean up, freezing up my computer making me do a hard reboot.......since I was done as of the 31st of this month, called to tell them I wasn't online. Now I have to fight to not pay July's merc fees.

Nope.

I have been downloading these files for 8 years.

This is the smallest download file I have seen from FTD.

btw: it is a moot file, sans FTD.
 
I know there are florists leaving, and I think the biggest change involves ASB listings...each time a florist pulls in and back to their true local area dropping an ASB listing or zip/postal code thats a record removed from the database.

this has indeed been the biggest "trend", and though existing FTD shops ARE leaving, it continues to amaze me, how many are returning, from absences of membership...it's very annoying!!
It means one of two things...they CANNOT live without a wire service, or the "other" wire services are worse!!

Or it could just mean that they got one of those freebie-discount offers to get them back in and they just couldn't pass up "such a good deal".

And this is one of FTD's bigger mistakes... charging for ABS listings is nutz
We deliver to over 20 towns and used to list them..but no more so how do florists figure out who goes where?? there is no valid reason for charging for ABS listings..it is a favor to the sending florist not to the receiving florist.. so one more stupid mistake making the value of a ws less

But I do not get the big bucks so what could I know?

If only florists were smart. If every florist pulled their ASB, it would for the most part hurt the sending florists. Those florists, rather then spend extra time to find who actually serves these areas, most likely would be willing to pay for that service. Thereby shifting the costs to the sending side, rather then the filling side when they belonged in the first place.

I had a call from my wire service trying to "give me a deal" on ASB listings. They asked "how many zip codes do you serve?" Answer "about 50". They then proceeded to try to explain the deal. My reply was that my delivery capabililty is an asset and that I would only charge them a small fee per zip per month if they wish to use my services. The person on the other end of the phone sounded puzzled. I explained that I don't give my services away and if they wished to have a quality florist represent them then I have to charge for my services. Result - hung up.

As in Shelby, for Pete's same?

That was about as shocking as bloomz joining FTD.
