Do a Good Deed, Win FREE Registration to AIFD’s Symposium!
The military men and women who protect us spend months or years away from loved ones, friends and family. Unfortunately, too many of them never return home. In the United States, we come together on Memorial Day (this year on May 27) to remember and recognize these selfless individuals and their sacrifice for our safety.
The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation was formed to help with that recognition effort. The group works with Arlington National Cemetery, florists from all across the country and many other national/veteran cemeteries to provide flowers to cemetery visitors to place on headstones and take home in their loved one’s memory.
Florists who participate in the event receive 400 roses, along with a Memorial Day Flowers banner and 200 informational handouts on which to incorporate their shop’s details.
Participating florists then use their roses in the way that works best in their community. For example, you can:
Obviously, participating in the Memorial Day Flowers’ program is an excellent way to connect with your community and honor those in the military who have served your country. But if that is not incentive enough, we’ve got a little extra “oomph” to get you to sign up.
FlowerChat has teamed up the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation and AIFD to award the prize of a FREE REGISTRATION to attend AIFD’s Symposium in Las Vegas, June 28-July 2 to one lucky winner!
We’ll draw a random name from among FlowerChat’s newsletter readers and members who sign up. To have your name included in the drawing, simply fill out the paperwork to participate. (Get full details on the event at www.memorialdayflowers.org.) Then post a message on the FlowerChat Facebook page to let us know you have done so. We’ll then enter your name into the drawing.

Prize details: The winner will have access to all education programs at the AIFD symposium, excluding meal events. If the winner would like to expand his/her registration to include meals, they will be able to do so at the discounted AIFD-member rate.

- Contact your local cemetery and set up a table from which to distribute roses to visitors. You’ll give each visitor two stems: one to place on a headstone and one to take home in remembrance of a friend or relative. Optionally, you can provide a service for families that are unable to visit the cemetery in person by taking and sending a digital photo of the rose lying on the headstone.
- Distribute roses at your local Memorial Day parade or ceremony.
- Place a sign at your shop offering a free Memorial Day rose to anyone who comes in on the preceding Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
