Open Order Day

In the old days...(28 years ago) there was a policy in place. Orders sent day before the holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, Mother's Day) or on holiday (Valentine's) were to be sent as "Open Orders". Customer did not have a choice but a fresh arrangement would be filled designer's choice, a plant may not be the rosebush but a mum, gloxinia, violet garden etc. Many shops followed the rules, many just got the order and filled it with a mum plant...or similar. It was really a way of discouraging a late sender. Now it doesn't matter because usually the merc or dove is off and you can't get through with a phone call or you don't have time to have someone redial. Open order served it's purpose before but now it wouldn't work even if shops agreed to the policy. Still waiting to hear what the "powers that be" say!
