Well, I bought my hubby personal trainer sessions for his 40th bday (ten months ago and he's just getting around to even thinking about going), and now he wanted to do the same for my b-day. So today we went to the gym, to learn more about memberships & training sessions.

What I was envisioning as a positive & encouraging experience quickly turned into an almost harrowing sales session, where I really could have used a translator. And possibly a lawyer.

18 sessions, minus the pre-paid membership would equal $X.
Add in the membership, paid monthly plus a sign up fee and tax and you can get 24 sessions instead of 18.
Take the introductory month (with a signed yearly contract and commitment for at least 6 visits + 2 personal trainer sessions) and we'll waive the set up fee.
Give us three names & we'll give you three visitor passes.
Add a second membership for $39 monthly, and we'll waive the signup fee.
Cancel within 72 hours, unless you're opting for the 30 day trial, then cancel within the 30 day period.

I think the only time I was more confused with a purchase was when we bought our first home, with PMI.

I'm going ahead with the 30 day trial, and 2 trainer sessions. Hopefully, the working out will be less stressful than the signing up, and then I'll sign on for the full year + more sessions.

I need to do this : :treadonme
So I can feel like this : :4luc:
and then I can tell mysel this : :iwuvyou:

pray for me :dearbob:

LOL I thought I was the only one intimidated by that! I hate the place and decided walking out doors was the best for me ( and free too, and I don't have to dress to go there, either)lol Now BF and I use the Total Gym every day after the walking. Much better choice for me :walking:
I couldn't get over the sweaty/dirty aspect either. My neighbor says I look like I'm training for the Olympics, ya gotta do what ya gotta do!:scooter:

Good luck Tracy! I've been going to the gym 2-3 days a week for a few weeks which seems like no big whoop 'cept I have never been in the habit of exercise and have about 50 lbs to lose. I just joined cheapie Cardinal Fitness for $19.95 month and it was easy peasy. I get up at 5:45 a.m. and go before I'm fully awake and realize I don't waaaanna go on the treadmill!
lol
I don't weigh myself at this point but I will tell you I feel great on the days I do work out.

gyms will rip you off just as fast as
the PMI rips you off. Make sure you
are comfortable w/ the fine print.

...regarding the PMI:
Have you dropped below the 80%
loan-to-value on your mortgage?
If so you can REQUEST to have the PMI
dropped. And DO NOT decrease your
monthly payment by that dollar amt. Keep paying
the same and let the old PMI amt go to
'additional principle'

debt sucks! cause we make other people rich
when we have debt.

....unless you are very motivated most people
do not use the gyms after signing up.

we don't have PMI now that we rent ;) Sold it all to move down here & run this place, so no home mortgage for now.

I read all the fine print, especially the part about canceling within 72 hours, when I was signing a contract for a year with a 30 day cancelation clause - phew, it sure did work out my mind to follow all the mumbo jumbo. I'm okay with what I signed, just hope the 30 days are more fun than today.

I used to love to work out, now I NEED to work out. Hopefully it will become a habit, and one I don't have to break!

I just cancelled my gym membership in favor of walking outside too. Its just easier to go for a quick walk on the street after dinner instead of driving twenty minutes each way to the gym. Where I feel like a loser because everyone else can do so much more than me and has cuter work out clothes. Although I have yet to figure out what I am going to do come winter.

....

....great advice.

Habit.
Habit.
Habit.

If one does not make exercise a habit that
you love your goals will never be met no
matter how much $$ you spend. The best
thing I have found is to try and do it with
some friends.....habit.....everyday or at the
bare minimum every other day. :walking:
It is the only way.

Habit.
Habit
Habit.

....heck oprah could not even make it a habit
and she has all the $$$ in the world. So that
should tell you it is not the $$$, it is a mindset.
...good luck.
