A re-worded bill which was being held up in committee in the Maine House and Senate was passed by the Maine House on Monday 12 Apr 2004 and sent onto the Senate where it should be easily passed. My fellow florists had worked hard on the original bill but for some reason the intent was lost in the wording. I contacted my local Senator and Representative and provided wording that showed the committee that the bill was concerning fraudulent listings not sales tax collections being missed by the state and they had the amendments made. The wording worked and passed committee and the House. For some reason when comments were made on the news at noon, the wording was "Florists push for fraudulent listings being removed" and my husband was on the phone congratulating me LOL.....
The bill although not like SAF's I believe, just basically states that "Every phone listing for a business MUST provide a location listing" meaning street address and if out of state, must list the state. Which is a first step. If and when the gatherers start showing a street listing of our local telephone switching office...back to the legislature or the courts even...Then we can go after the phone companies for fraud too!!

Congratulations!

Is this law subject to print media only or does it apply to the web as well?

(Note: to see the page above, copy and paste the URL in a new browser window and remove the "-" from the beginning. I wouldn't want Ryan to undergo another Denial of Service attack...)

Yes, this is related to a previous thread here: http://www.flowerchat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2163

Rosie, I did file a complaint on just that with the Canadian board as they are located there. I don't think the US would do anything. They can't get spam under control, never mind web sites. Web sites such as this proliferate because people use them. Pass a law? that's a big laugh. How would they prosecute the sites from India with their special pricings?
But I will contact the US address also. Thanks so much.
One step at a time...

Which country does have a handle on the spam situation?
