Helpmehelpmehelpme PLEEEEEEEEEEZE!

I'm so confused. I recently had a report card done for my website

http://www.any-timeflowers.com

One of the negatives was that I am not listed in DMOZ or Yahoo! directory.

Duane said it's $299/yr for Yahoo! directory. I made the decision to pony up, so went searching to figure out how to do so.

I went to Y, clicked on add your listing to the directory and was prompted to first search and make sure it was not listed.

Up popped this, which clearly says I am not listed, and then goes on to give three listings that might match, including two that are me!

http://search.yahoo.com/search/dir?...com&ei=UTF-8&fr=fp-tab-news-t&n=15&fl=0&x=wrb

WHAT? So I'm not listed, but I am?

Like I said, I'm confused and now I'm not sure what I should do. I never did find anything resembling a paid directory.

help?

I used your name and your zip code at www.getlisted.org and nothing shows up for you. NONE of your lsitings have been claimed, OG like to grab these and use the name in a re-direct from the home page or anyone can claim those listings. I would not pay the main directory is free. Go to the above, type in your name and zip code this start with yahho and the others. Use the phone verification process versus snail mail, much faster. When you start, copy and paste into all of the. The most important is Best of the Web.

I'm not listed either in yahoo on get listed. An Og had claimed my yahoo, they've taken if down but won't re-instate me as the owner. The strange thing is when I type in "flowers in 55518" nothing but Og show up, when normally a directory pulls up (flowers in 32174) as example there appears to bne no directory. I don't think all the florists in that area have not listed themselves????

There's a difference between the Yahoo Directory and Yahoo Local. Y Local allows businesses to claim their listings.

The Y Directory http://dir.yahoo.com/?skw=yahoo+directory is a paid listing resource where you can submit your site for review and the editors will categorize it in the appropriate topic. Here are the listings for 'florists': http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Shopping_and_Services/Flowers/

An editor may decide that your company is more appropriately listed as a florist under your city name (local) than in the topic of choice. The link is worth less, but still helpful.

We submitted to the Y Directory about 10 years ago and the fee of $299 was for a listing 'for life'. Y changed to an annual fee a few years later.

We were moved down to a regional/city category about 5-6 years ago (instead of being in the more powerful 'florist' category) and can only get re-reviewed if we pony up $299/year. I'm fine with our listing 'as is' for the moment.

Cathy, thank you. Good to know. If I have to pay for a listing and then have no choice of where I'll be listed I guess they can keep their service.

Does this answer my question though? See? I'm still confused! IIRC, DMOZ is free but you may be turned down. I know I tried that when I first built my website in 2004 but back then, it wasn't even e-commerce and of course it was a brand new site.

As quoted by Rick ~

Ah, so it WASN'T the sauce, just a typo. 55118 is my zip. Thanks Rick!

But I thank God we have this resource. That's why I started doing so much research, I got tired of being told how to do things and most of the crap being todl was wrong or time outdated. There's so much to learn on here from each other..............I'm glad you and everyone else is on here!!
