It has always been my belief that TF will take anyone--no qualifications, no nothing, having witnessed this in the past.
A florist in a neighboring town was turned down by TF. Any ideas?
This is a newbie to the industry so there can't be prior baggage.
 
There are two requirements to be a WS member:

1) Ability to fog a mirror
2) Cheques that don't bounce (all the time)

and #1 can be waived ...

Odds are, they failed the credit check.

Bad Credit and Low FICO score.

Only reason they would turn down any florist newbie wanna bee, is because of the applicant's personal backround credit check.

They need to have something to ATTACH TO after they've attached themselves to YOU, and after you failed to pay their bill.

Otherwise, and if you have a bucket and can fill it with water and flowers, you're good to go!

Oh I don't know....

I know A LOT of less than desirable (at least by my standards) florists were Grandfathered into TF when TF was buying up redbook, afs, and everybody else.

IN FACT, When I went to manage a grocery store florist some years back, when AFS was still around, TF and FTD would not accept the grocery store, because we were in a grocery store. But AFS would. SO we became AFS.

However I now know that the grocery store florist here in town is FTD, I guess FTD got a little laxed, eh... Don't know about TF policies anymore, but I don't think they bring on new grocery stores, but who knows maybe they do.

With all that said, there are a lot of crappy florists who put out crappy work that are TF, FTD, and whatever else.....

Not always true...

Just before our previous TF rep left, he signed up a "florist" that was working out of what amounted to a U-STORE IT cubicle. The NEW sales rep FIRED her as soon as she found out.

TF must be stopped

I have a personal vendetta against Teleflora...and any other recipe wire service. When I opened my shop in 2002, I truly believed that TF would keep us afloat until we got our feet on the ground and built our local clientele enough to sustain a solit business. Within 6 months, we Owed them over $3000 and had so few orders coming in, I questioned the "collection effort". After reading the fine print in my monthly statements, I realized I was just another nickel & dime account that they leeched money from thru their rediculous schemes. TF is a relentless and moral-less organization that only cares about the bottom line. The are run by non-industry business men that dont know the difference between a filler and a focal. I was eventually able to settle my debt with them and to this day have not attended or been a part of a single Telefloral related event.
If you want to be a part of something good for you and the floral industry, check out BBrooks fine flowers of San Franscisco. This is what the floral industry should strive to be when it comes to Wire . SERVICE. I know...bitter? party of one?...hahha

Ummm MFT, bbrooks is a TF member, just thought you should know.

If you are discrediting TF based upon your personal business experiences I think you may have over looked a few things..

I'm not by any means a TF cheerleader, however TF employs some of the best of the worlds floral designers. They do a lot to advance floral education. And I think they do a darn fine job of it.

Over the phone sales people or the TF rep you get the pleasure of speaking to when you call about some stupid order they sent, yes, I can understand your grief.

But as far as education in this industry and the shows they put on, well if your not going to them you are just cutting off your nose to spite your face. I learn something everytime I go to one. I'm working on the 26th year in the biz
 
I get it...

I certainly understand your point of view and think that there are designers and shops out there that benefit from the seminars, but the 20 or so that I have been to were really lacking in innovation and creativity. There are so many other ways to get really good and fresh information. I'm aware that BBrooks is TF, but I have never had a bad experience with BB and to me, they represent the best part of the industry. I am one of those people that wants the best designers with passion to thrive...I dont mean to offend anyone. I am promoting upscale design thru horticulture...MFT
