It seems that a tuning of the Maps algorithm has cause countless business listings to be merged with competitors. I know of at least a couple florists here affected by the errors.

If your information has been merged with another business (phone number, address, URL, photos, reviews, etc...), please post about it TODAY in this Google Maps Help Group thread: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/maps/thread?fid=6c515a66e1584e5e000468a315e4a4cf&hl=en

Google is saying it may take weeks to fix the algo, but a post there may get you some immediate assistance.

Read more about this big blunder on Mike Blumenthal's blog -
Google Maps: Manic Merging of Business Listings due to Algo Change

Once again, bad, bad timing for florists right before Mother's Day.

I wonder if this is just a coincidence or a conspiracy that big adwords volume players get the advantage - of course at a major major holiday?

No..... Read Mike's article.

It's really hitting Hotels hard - actually every business sector. The G Maps Group has a post about a hospital emergency room staff calling a doctor about a patient's drug allergies - and G has merged his number with someone else's so he never got the call or a message. Patient was in serious jeopardy.

G really needs to get its act together on this - and fast!

I'm wondering if this is the cause of a problem I had the other week with google maps. We have our own listing but google somehow put another florists website address on my listing

This is the response I received today from my email to google.
So, my question is how am I supposed to know where it is published (other than google) to correct the problem?
I stated in my original email to them that the reviews do not have
"flag if inappropriate" under the review.
:hammer:

Hello Sharon,

Thank you for your email. I apologize for the delay in response. I
understand that you click on your business listing on Google Maps, you get pictures and reviews of other businesses mixed with yours. Please note that since Google Maps simply aggregates and organizes information published on the web, we don't control this content, and we don't control the websites that publish the content.

The reviews themselves are not created by Google. If you feel that a
particular review of your business is inaccurate, we recommend that you express your concerns to the webmaster of the site on which this review was posted.

Any changes made to third-party sites should be reflected in Google Maps shortly. However, because we don't control this third-party content, we can't provide or promise a specific timeline for when a particular review will be updated.

If you're concerned about a review that was submitted through Google Maps, click the Flag as inappropriate link found under the review, and submit a report. If the review is in violation of our Google Maps policies, we'll be sure to remove it.
