composite bouquets

Thanks to everyone for the great information on making composite or Duchess roses. The hints for success were great. After some experimentation and practice, we made a bouquet for a bride. We used the cardboard from an acetate ribbon bolt. It did fine overnight inside a moist bag. I added support wires to the disk before adding petals, after reading about the stem break. It seemed a lot of weight and pressure to be on one single center rose, and I was really glad I did.

How did we do for a first go? (you really need to open the picture to see the detail)

BJ:
AWESOME!!!
I'm sure that your bride thought so also!

It's always fun when the things we learned so long, long ago come back into fashion, and we get to do them again...only better! (I learned to make dutchess roses and glamelias in the mid-1960's. Everything then was wired -- not glued.)

Regards,
Cheryl

You did a gorgeous job on that! Very nice work, looks perfect. Glad it was you and not me doing that.

Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! I would love to see these as the next trend in bridal work. Time consuming and labor intensive, but the simplicity to me is just stunning. Thank you for sharing BJ.

I have received several PM asking about the technique I used to add support wires before gluing petals. Here are the steps I took. I'm sure there are other ways to do it, but this worked great for me.

BJ yours is gorgeous! Here's a less than perfect version I made for a photo shoot. Mine didn't have stems because it ended up in a lotus bowl. bigrose.jpg
