Thanks! We were sort of handicapped as a member of the Flowerama chain of flower shops. In order to be a really successful Flowerama, you need about 5 things:
1. 50,000 cars going by the shop every day
2. 15' tall "marquee" sign where you can change the letters to advertise your weekly specials
3. Easy in-and-out access to parking
4. Tons of outdoor merchandise, esp. seasonal (bedding plants in spring
5. A huge awning
Of those, we had only #1. We had more traffic going by than some of the most successful franchise in the chain, and we regularly scored 95 - 100 in the "secret shopper" visits. But it's a pain in the butt to get in and out of our parking lot, and we didn't have the other things because we were in a shopping center that didn't allow them, so we decided to end the franchise and see if we're old enough to walk on our own two feet.
Still get along great with the folks at Flowerama, though. Their formula works when you put all the pieces together. It just didn't work out for us the way it should.
We've built a loyal customer base that will follow us, and we'll put the money we save on rent into a new, modern marketing program. That's why I'm here. Our marketing program so far has been "Sit on a corner with 50,000 cars going by every day." Now we'll have to re-invent ourselves.
I'm really looking forward to it!
