Google changes its ranking algorithm continueously.
I know we have touched on some of this information...
Within the last couple of weeks, Google changed three major things on the result pages that show for all Google searches.
First, Google has increased the snippet length.
Google extended the snippet for queries that consist of three or more keywords. Most people using Google search are now using more keywords per search...
Example: florists online Houston TX
This change means that these multi word searches are very targeted and complex...
The usual short snippet do not contain enough information, so the longer snippet contains much more information.
The longer snippets need more space, so the longer snippets will move search result
below the fold and the consumer will see fewer results at first glance.
That increases the importance of very high rankings.
BIG HINT: It appears that Google ignores the meta description tag for these snippets...This means that you need to include a call to action in your webpage titles and the snippet is likely to be taken from the body of your webpage...content, content and more content.
Some SEO experts are seeing snippet displaying nearly 4 lines with around 290 characters.
Second, Google now shows more related searches at the bottom of the results.
For example, when you search for the keyword "principles of flower arrangements", Google will suggest "floral arrangements roses," "floral foam," "flower floral design" and "gladiolus flower arrangement" as related terms that could help the consumer find what they need. Notice that "floral arrangements roses" and "floral foam" are shown at the top and bottom of the search results. If the consumer clicks on these links, they taken to new search results...Your website needs to rank well for all of these keywords.
BIG HINT: It's more important now than ever before that you optimize the different web pages of your website for different keywords...The more related keywords and pages can be found on your website, the better.
Third, Google now shows local results based on IP addresses
Search Google for the keyword "florist" and the consumer will see local results in the middle of the search results.
These local results are delivered based on the IP address of the consumer...That means that consumer will get different results than people in another city.
BIG HINT: You should include your business name, the word florist and flower shop and the name of your city in the title tag of your homepage. Don't list your business name first...start with flower shop Houston TX, florist online serving Houston Texas, flower delivery by Mlou Florist
