Hi I'm Jonathan Wall, CEO of UK Relay service Flowers Direct. I've been recommended to participate in flowerchat and also to read to get a better understanding of what is happening in the US and the UK floral market.

1yr in Floral business 12yrs in Mail order & Internet

Hoping I can find out more about this industry and how a great floral network should operate in these times.

Thanks

Hi Jonathan - Are you an actual florist with a store front and a cooler? Are you an Order Taker that sends order to actual florists??

Not sure who has given Jonathan the red dot but I have to say that having met him, talked at length and not pulled my punches (which he took like a man and given the strength of my punches that's good!!) I would actually give him as a person the benefit of the doubt and at least credit him with the guts to come onto the board and under his own name. Remember he only joined the company a few months ago and is not responsible for the actions of the past or previous people but is responsible for putting them right.

Whether he can or not remains to be seen. He knows Flowers Direct has a dodgy track record and that they are going to have to do some serious damage repair if they are to get florists on side. However I have also seen that he is prepared to talk, is prepared to answer and is prepared to help if he can.

Does that make me a fan of Flowers Direct or indeed any other relay. No way. However my feeling is that rather than blast him (or indeed any other relay boss that is prepared to come on here publicly and not a lurker) out of the water without a chance he should be 'interviewed' properly and then a decision taken.

JMO!!!!

No they are a wire/order gatherer/relay service and they send out flowers in boxes as well as pass orders to florists ... same as many other service companies in the industry.

I wonder if Jonathan might get his feelings hurt... as for me (I have not been a member of FC for very long....) I have noticed that many of FC users do not speak fondley of OG's Relays or WS's... Including Me! :O)

What are your thoughts on this Jonathan? If we are bashing Wire Services - what might your reaction be?

Carrie thanks for your input... I agree completely with you. Drive by red dots don't fly with me either.

Jonothan, thank you for your interest in our community. Please tell us what you hope to gain by being a member here, and conversely what can you offer?

Thanks for taking the time.

The only gripe i have with flowers direct is that they bypass the local florist by doing boxed or that is what i believe (pls correct me if i am wrong), and the florist gets mostly same day orders??

I had a bad experience with flowers direct when i almost joined with them.

Think i will leave this up to someone else but would like the boxed question answering please if you dont mind.

We are like many national relay brands in the Uk and US that sell both boxed and relay flowers. Our business model is 70% via members florists and 30% via box. This is in order numbers. In revenue terms our boxed % would be much lower as generally these orders are around 30% lower in value.

30% of our orders taken are for sameday so as you can see alot of our non-sameday orders go via our member florists as well.

Thanks for everybodies comments.
