Problems with shades of flowers for wedding work

Hey everyone! I have a question for y'all about wedding flower colors. As we all know, Mother Nature plays a big part in what shade of a certain color our flowers come in. I try to make it very clear to my brides that we cannot guarantee a perfect color match because of this (its even in our contract) and suggest that they use complementary or contrasting colors instead. We all know that matchy-matchy isn't cute anyway! Most of the time we have no problem at all because our brides understand this completely. However, we recently had an experience with a MOB that flew off the handle because the dark purple carnations in the bridesmaids bouquets were "plum purple" instead of "eggplant purple." I mean, it was major melt down mode. Has anyone out there had problems like this? If so, how did you handle it? I tried to tint with Design Master but it really made no difference. Help!

Sometimes no matter how we try to avoid them, we get Momzillas and Bridezillas. If it's clearly stated in your contract, I don't see what else you can do except hope those types are few and far between!

Eggplant is such a hard color. I always tell people that I am not god and am not capable of doing things that mother nature can't do. I also challenge them to come up with a flower that comes in the color they want....I tell them it has to be a "florist flower" meaning it has to hold up and be sold at a florist not just the nursery. We did almost 300 weddings this year and I have access to one of the best flower marts in the country and I still almost always spray paint callas and coffee bean to match eggplant. Sweet peas also work at times...... Have you heard the song "God is good and beer is great and people are crazy"? I often sing this to my staff after a customer like this leaves my store. What ever you do don't take it personally. :)
