Fellow Florists For Change Members:

We want to proudly announce that our deceptive advertising bill SB404, found Here http://www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/77th2013/Bills/SB/SB404_EN.pdf, has passed through the Nevada legislature and has been signed by our Governor, Brian Sandoval. The legislation for deceptive advertising in the floral industry was an amendment to a fair trade practice bill that was previously introduced into the state legislature and can be found in section 9 of the bill. A special thanks goes out to State Senator Debbie Smith, Katie Knapp of Bumblebee Blooms, John DiBella of DiBella Flowers and Gifts, and Bruce Gescheider of The Florist at Moana for their support of this bill. I encourage everyone to use our language in SB404 as a template to take to your state legislator and see if this can be adopted in your state. Together we can eradicate these deceptive practices from our industry. We in Massachusetts are taking another stab at a similar bill which has a hearing this Tuesday. I testified at a hearing 2 years ago for the bill which went no where, but hopefully this time it will pass. I can't go to the state house this time because it's a busy week and I wasn't given enough notice, but I did send a letter. I am noticing less of these deceptive ads in our phonebooks now, even with out the law.

It took two tries in Vermont Helen I was not part of the first attempt but I think it was more a timing issue by the time we tried again 2 years later the enconmy had collapsed and people I think were generally listening more to issues. I expect to see less ads in phonebook going forward as it is dieing resource.

In case anyone missed the news, the bill passed!

Here are two posts from the Florists for Change Facebook page that provide details:

Just in case you missed Katie's post, I'm re posting : Katie S. Hildreth-Knapp
DEAR FELLOW FLORISTS; Just got back from Carson City and meeting Governor Sandoval who was signing SR404 in to law; Yes, it is now illegal for “DOG” Florists (Deceptive Order Gatherers) To falsely came that they are local florists in the State of Nevada and they must list their location on all advertisements! Just thought you would like to know. Much Thanks to the Fiannaca’s and Florists for Change!
