What would you charge?

This is unchartered territory for me so I need your input. I have a bride with a very large budget ( :wide: ) and she now wants to include a few of these centerpieces in her 'afterhours party.' What's a guess on the number of bunches of the two different orchids. And I'm assuming those are some kind of flocked or painted branches also. I need a price tag too and a reality check on how much labor is involved.

That's freaking stunning, and I hope you get some good replies about pricing.

Seeing centerpieces like that in trade mags/celeb mags/ tv shows, always brings to mind our normal pricing procedure (3X + labor & hardgoods). When you're working with that quantity of high price florals (phal stems easily $20-$30 wholesale per stem), are event shops and decorators working with a different mark up, to be able to make these arrangements NOT be the $1000 that I'm seeing?
 
Off the top of my head without counting stems I'm just going to blurt out $500. Gotta get to work, can't wait to read the rest of the replies. It's gorgeous. That would be great for your portfolio!

Tracy's calculation sounds about right, but you may be able to reduce a bit on labour if need be since you are inserting 1 stem @$20 in stead of 10 @$2.00 (less insertions=less time) (expand to $200 in flower content: 10stems @$20 compared to the time it takes to insert 100 stems @$2.00)
 
my initial thought was 1000.00 just from looking at it and that really didn't take into consideration all that was going on on the tabel. I would need more time to sit and scrutinize all that....I would say that the whole kit and kaboodle would price out around 1500.....I will taka better look later and repost..
 
So, like you can't do that for $100.00? ;)

As Lori said, it's more than just the arrangement... there is the table involvement as well... mucho dinero.

I agree with your labor logic and number of stem inserts. Except, I don't want to skimp on labor because it is such a large piece and a bit more awkward to make than a typical centerpiece.

...What are your thoughts on the number of orchid stems?
 
To me, $1000 seems a little low... You have to remember that there are orchids at all angles... This means LOTS of orchids... Tough to say exactly how much.

Just from labour alone, I would guess it would take about 4 hours just to build that centerpiece.

I would of quoted more between $1500-$1800 range....
 
This is her after hours party??? wow. What a great event!!!

Here's what I came up with (using the vase as a rental- which is not much of a factor in the overall budget) This quote only includes the center arrangement and not the submerged side vases.

I'd estimate:

12-15 stems Phal.
35-50 stems dendros
Crystals
Flocked branches
Vase rental
labor

According to my formula, that's $1795.50-1972.50 per center.

Mocha, I'm going to restrict the bride to just one of these arrangements maybe two. Place them in the most strategic areas of the afterhours party tent. There is a ton of other stuff we are doing for this tent. I'm also doing the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception and brunch - at 5 different venues. Time management is going to ba a killer.

What is your guess on labor time to assemble.? Lally thinks 4 hours but I'm hoping it's no where near that because this is a too large of an event to spend that kind of time on an arrangement...
 
Multiple WOWs! That is an incredibly gorgeous arrangement. I agree with the $2,000 price range. There is alot more than just creating it going on. Where will you keep it until you are ready to transport it (gulp! that just sound like a logiscal nightmare!) and then get it into place?

I would love to see pictures of the entire event! What a delightful challenge to be a part of!

I think the $2000 sounds about right. As far as labor, I would think it would take the better bart of 2 hours start to finish. I would do 80% of the dendro and everything else beforehand and insert the phals, crystals and the rest of the dendro (to fill in holes) onsite.

I can't wait to see the pictures!

Okay, now you are scaring me. What do you mean where will I keep it? I was just going to assemble as much as possible before transporting and it would sit in a separate room. Is that what you mean?

Wow, I thought I could slam this puppy together in an hour or so given it's loose construction. I'll need to do a preliminary mock-up (no orchids though) to time myself. Good thing I'm asking the pros. Thanks guys.:)

I am so sorry - I didn't mean to scare you. What I meant was if you were going to start the design process 2 days (or whenever) before the event - how will you store it so the flowers will remain fresh and it won't be in the way. I try to get the mechanics out of the way early and then go back and add flowers closer to the event.

And I've always had a difficult time transporting these type of arrangements as they are top heavy - I'm sure lots of people will offer ideas and suggestions that will help you out.

Wow that is absolutely gorgeous! I would love to design something like that. Yeah I would say probably between 1850-2250 would be a good range. Let us know how it goes. Can't wait until pictures.
 
It's gonna take some time to do this.

If it were me, I'd be doing them on site. I would allow myself 3 to 4 hours to do them, however I think it would really only take 2 hours to do both. You never know what kind of "Hidden flaws" you may run into.

I'd have all my stuff preped and ready to go and delegate the other things for the set up to other people that don't have the skill to put a piece like this together.

Too bad Preston Bailey is not on this forum. Maybe he'd give you a price quote if you found his email address or better yet called him. I think this was on his website. Knowing is price tag is quite expensive. I think some of this looks like silk is incorporated, I know he makes a lot of stuff from scratch. It looks like the base is an oasis ball with white cushion mums or carnations & everything else is coming out from the base. I just can't believe it would cost more than $1500., but
