Google Local Update

I've been corresponding with Mike Blumenthal about the recent changes in Google Local and he did a post about it on his blog, Understanding Google Maps and Yahoo Local Search .

The post talks about changes in G's copying of third-party user reviews (particularly CitySearch's), displaying of review stars and Adwords ads on Maps and Local.

I really meant it when I told him:

We florists are on the forefront of ‘Local’ and we have to succeeding there to be around in the future. Otherwise, we’ll have FTD, 1800Flowers, Teleflora and all the other affiliate marketers taking 30-40%+ cuts of each order we deliver. It’s a matter of survival that we get our arms around ‘local’ search.

I was looking yesturday on google maps a noticed that local ads where no longer showing up. You know that little icon on the map showing the location of the local advertiser.

But today its back. Anyone know whats going on?
