I have contacted our State Attorney General and he has forwarded a complaint form regarding false listings. Now, is there anyway to find out "which" listings are his. I know that he has some and so does "glinda the good witch" (can't remember her name, she used to post on FB and I think here too at one time). Jenny & Erlene, could you check your various phone books to see what's listed in your area and forward them to me?
They have culled the listings in my area book, the Bangor area and only All American Florist has listings 800-821-1348.

I think the AG needs phone numbers on local exchanges that forward out-of-state or out-of-area, unless the OG uses a company name like 'Portland Florist'.

Most fictitious florist legislation does not address ads or listings with toll-free numbers.

The best way I found to hunt his numbers.....is to scan the white pages of your local phone book.

His listings here in Columbia, SC for instance - just a few: Florist serving West Columbia, Florist in Columbia, Florist of West Columbia...

That is how we have identified all his numbers.

Rhonda, the following listings appear in the newest Portland phone book (August 2007):

South Portland Florist & Gift Service 800-632-7363
Westbrook Florist & Gift Service 800-632-7363

Cape Elizabeth, Cumberland, Gorham, Falmouth, Windham, Yarmouth and Scarborough do not have this listed.

The listings this year are pretty clean as compared to past years, this is the lowest ever that I can recall.

While these listings are not "local florists" they are not really "phony" as these companies are using their legal names and simply have national advertising contracts with the books they are in.

Sorry, but not allot we can do with these guys except refuse to fill their orders.

Our law states the use of either local (call forwarded) or 800 numbers without a local street listing. The ones Erlene posted are such as well as the ones All American places listing just the town or city and an 800 #. If I can get the AG to act on Meola following suit of the others, than we can get him to act on All American regarding all the ones they have also. Each one at a time, make them actually show where they are, not where they pretend to be. That is my mission.
