Transgenic blue roses

This colour, it seems to me, has been on the market in some form or other for a long time. I've done several weddings with them. They seem to morph in the name department though. :)

Genetically modified flowers are already here. Florigene's site talks about the blue rose quest. According to the site, their "original mission was to create the world's first "blue rose" through genetic modification. With our then partner Suntory Limited, our scientists succeeded in isolating the blue gene (from the petunia flower) in 1991 and patents were filed in all major countries in 1992."

We do carry Florigene carnations. They're gorgeous.

I love the colour of the carns Cathy. I've used them in the past as well. So nice to use something so ordinary, as something quite out of the ordinary. ;)

We have a rose that is like that called Cool Water. Out of all the lavander/blue roses I have used, cool water lasts the longest.

Those carns and the charteux ones are very nice Cathy.

Yep, me too... I get a box a week, four colors total, and then they are also doing Mini's as well....

Occasionally a supplier will carry the minis. I would snap them up. They are so lovely.

Rob at Rokay wholesaler is one of the northern distributors ( is that the correct term?) that carries the floragene line and they are really cool..using them as spheres on a tablescape at night with silver is yummy!
I think the blue that is actually is lavender is a "lost in translation" language thing. We have asked for lavender orchids from our main Thai supplier and we often get pink or purple. I have asked for lavender roses from some of the farms and they ask if we want blue so maybe it's a translation thing....

moon carns

We carry or sell the florigene carns as well. I would like to hear your opinion on the size of the flower compared to other South American carns!?! I had a customer receive his first shipment of the moon carns and tell me they were very small. I explained that is a characteristic of the flower. Do any on you see that as an issue?
