Well, this trip has been a desert as far as communiques go. I get cryptic messages on Facebook, or my voicemail... all of which are frustrating the hel l out of me.

Today's message... "camera stolen and I survived a near death experience. I love you".

Alrighty then... Lord.

OMG! I'd be biting my nails down past the quick, and a total basketcase.

Welcome to my world. ;) By the way there are all kinds of really mean people out there... "gee, she's just like her Mom". Whatbloodyever... it's different.

Hey Lady V...I know you will continue to worry but she is a survivor and the country will never be the same once she is through with them! I will fund a new camera for her next outing but it will be one that we can velcroe to her anatomy! Let her know she is being thought of by all of us!

Victoria, I will also pray for her. I know as a mother that we can't help but drive ourselves crazy with worry.

I must have missed what is going on. Why is she there? Is she with some kind of mission work? Whatever the reason, I know you must be very, very proud of her!

Thank you my friends. :) Sher you made me laugh out loud. You remember her camera woes in Peru. When we bought this one, the joke was whether or not it would get big dollars on the black market... I'm guessing it will (underwater housing included).

Vikki, Alana's mission, besides driving me nuts worrying, is to visit every country on the planet. She loves to explore, she loves to travel. Am I proud of her... you bet. Her history of panic attacks and fear are no longer in the fore front of her life.

She called again... to wish me a Happy Canada Day. She gave me a synopsis of the near death experience. It involved an over full water taxi and a 10 foot wall of water. It's apparent they don't have health and safety in these places. She's fine, thank God and is now moving on to a surfing town. As she said, with tongue in cheek, "I can't BELIEVE I haven't been approached by a surfing sponser!" She hasn't surfed really since Costa Rica.

So keep those good thoughts and prayers coming... she still hasn't given me a return home date. And now that Frederik isn't coming to visit (France) in August, and her money is holding out well, it could be a longer way off.

Speaking of money, she asked me to pay some bills for her today. You know, that's power... I could overpay and deplete the account and hasten the journey home (that's my evil twin taking over).

Take care and thanks again. You people are wonderful. :)

Spoken as a true mother...that is EXACTLEY what I would do!

I know the best we can hope for is health and happiness for our children. But my gosh, do they not understand how they age us?!?!

I love her adventurer spirit! Oh to be young again! I am quite sure there is a guardian angel or 2 looking over her shoulder. As a Mom, I can't even imagine your worries! I will keep her in my thoughts for a safe return.

Hey All,

Happy Canada Day!

I´m off to Ometepe and then to the Rio San Juan so I don´t believe I will be able to email for awhile.
I was planning on going to Playa Remonsa today to continue my rather sad attempt at surfing, but it seems I now have surfers ear (we call it swimmers ear but I think my way sounds much cooler). So I think I should stay out of the water until it stops feeling like there is a violent, heavily armed gnome in my head trying to get out through my ear!

I will be on a boat overnight on Thursday and am a little freaked out
due to my near death experience on a boat the other day, but it is
either that or a 36 hour bus ride.

Hope all is well at home!

Love
Alana

V,

Has she yet explained the near death experience?

Yes Beth... an overloaded water taxi and a 10ft wall of water was involved. She and her friend Courtney were on the bow... she doesn't know how they survived.

Sandra I have saved all her e-mails from all her travels. :)

Hey All,
Iï½´m in Altagracia right now where internet is spotty at best, extremely
slow, and uber annoying so this will be brief.
I left San Juan Del Sur at 1pm and somehow got here and found a hotel
by 4pm (I even had time to stop in Rivas to pick up some disposable
cameras. I lucked out and got the port just as the boat was about to leave.
When we were on the boat before it was listing to the right. This time
it was left and the water was choppy as hell. Due to my new fun fear
of boats I had to find a place on the left side of the bow(?) so I could
jump in the water if it decided to tip over and not be crushed by it.
(always stay prepared). When I got off the boat I ran into Johan (Woof:
he says hi)
Tomorrow night Iï½´m getting on the ferry (if it bothers to stop here)
for the 9 hour overnight trip to San Carlos on the Rio San Juan. I have
no idea how long I am staying there but will soon head to El Castillo
for a few days then try to see if I canï½´t make it all the way to the
Atlantic.
I believe there are a few places that have unreliable internet so I
will try to keep in touch as best I can.
Iï½´m sorry I canï½´t call right now, but I am fine, maybe a little lonely.
I think Iï½´m the only tourist in this town.
I hope everyone is well!
Love
Alana

Alana and her Minions

As long as the strong boy arms of the minions are respectful, I'm liking this.

Hey Mom,
The boat ride was a lot better than the last 2 but long and
uncomfortable. You will however, be happy to know that I have met up with 5 guys with big strong boy arms who have the same plan as I do and am sure they will protect me. I plan on following them like a lost puppy dog (Iï½´ve asked if I could call them my minions but they said no).

Iï½´m in San Carlos right now and tomorrow am heading to El Castillo for
I donï½´t know how long and then up the river to the Carribean then the
theory is that we get on a cargo ship up to Bluefields and over to The
Corn Islands. Thatï½´s the general plan but the do seem to change every
hour or so.
Glad to hear all is well at home and no I still donï½´t know when I will
be back.
Love you lots
Alana

No my friend... it's an Alanaism. I can hear her saying it and I smile. :)
