Good ideas all... and I'm with Cathy...

Also, for me, Hydrangia...often as a base... but tomorrow as a filler flower... 60 orange Eufloria roses with white Hydrangia for filler...

Thom.....You don't use fillers? :boggles: - Have you not ever done a gypsophilia topiary, Used terra cotta pots, and did meadow/wild flower looks?

You missing some good stuff boy.

I'm with Fly here, I really don't like accessory flowers either. However I am a big fan of foliages. Especially tropical foliages.

I do like Burplurium, and clovers, but our look is compact, so using heathers and the such are a waste of money. I have used Babies Breath. We had suspended clouds made out of the stuff, although the ballroom smelled like someone hid rancid socks in a pine forest. And the first wedding we did here in Connecticut last year was somewhat country, We used 5 bunches of Million Star in tall glass floor vases down the isle. That barn just smelled of dirty socks.

ha ha I always say gyp smells like feet! But it sure beats cats-pee-a.

You know there is a very simple way to rid gyp of the dirty socks smell and the piss smell of caspia

Downy liquid fabric softener - put it into a mist/spray bottle......after you process your gyps and caspia......just spray it with the downy.

After a few minutes......when the mist dries.....presto....no socks and pee smell.

and it DOES NOT affect vase life.

When you purchase the Downy ( make sure it is the Downy brand....something in the chemical makeup ) get the UNSCENTED.

I promise you......it does work. You use it after processing and before you use the flowers in design.

I really love caspia if it's very nice and doesn't smell. We have been getting some great stuff in our consumer bouquets lately! I like the textural effect it has on a design. Kind of like larkspur-there is nothing like larkspur to give that casual gardeny feel.

I love acacia. It's fragrant, bright and textural. Too bad it's not available all year! Also boronia, for the same reasons.

Shannon,

Red Lepto, I forgot about that one and really like that as an accent too.

I also use the term " accent" flower, never filler, just because the customer thinks "filler" as, just that, "filler". Sometimes the customer envisions it as a free flower just to fill up the vase.

We use Fabreeze on gyp. with the same results. I don't use the smelly caspia. Blue Stream seems pretty odorless and I love the hot purple color.

I actually use alstromaeria as filler alot. Also use alot of variegated pitt as filler. Right now in the cooler that we are using I have trachillium, cottage yarrow, hypericum, buplerum, solidago and bells that we cut down short for low lush arrangements. Also like to add folded leaves, gunny euc (sp?), seeded euc, tree fern, ming fern, or plumosa, queen anne lace. That's about all I can think of right now. Almost never use any of the choices except waxflower.

Does anyone use Maidenhair fern? I found a farm that sells it, they sear the cut stems to retain moisture. I love the look but am worried they will crap out on me in vased arrangements. We have a "no crapping out" policy here.

I've used Maiden hair, great stuff, I've never seen how long it lasts past an event, but we've used it in Oasis and held up great.

Does anyone like green sedum? The pink is great too in the fall. When the Viburnums are in we use lots of that especially the local bunches. When the red berried Viburnum in the fall comes out I will use lots of that stuff cause it spreads so well and is beautiful.

There are small bunches of assorted protea foliage from Australia that is fun to use for detail work. We also use lots of stuff like this:http://www.nzbloom.com/pieris.htm
