Congratulations!

You now have a blog.

FlowerChat is very pleased to be able to offer our members this effective new means to grow your business. Blogging is a very valuable method to spread the word about your company and activities.

Until now, many of our members were interested in blogging, but the setup was intimidating and time consuming. Effective today, every member of FlowerChat has immediate access to their own blog, using the familiar interface of the FlowerChat editor.

How to begin:
  1. In the top navbar menu there is now a link titled "Blogs." Click it.
  2. You are now in the main blog menu. This is where you will be able to search and read blog posts from any FlowerChat member.
  3. On the left side is the Options box.
  4. You can choose to:
    - Go to (read) your blog
    - Post to your blog (create a new message)
    - View a random blog entry
    - Enter your Blog Control Panel
The control has options for configuring the user experience on your blog, but it's not necessary to change anything to begin blogging.

Why not start by clicking on Post to my blog and creating a Hello World entry?

The Power of FlowerChat
Unlike the majority of the FlowerChat Forums content, the blogs are open to the world to read. This is your soapbox, your pedestal to deliver your message to the world. FlowerChat receives an impressive amount of traffic from search engine bots (the "crawlers" that index the internet). It's not unusual for FlowerChat to have nearly 10,000 hits per day from the major search bots. This means the content of the blogs will be thoroughly indexed, and should help increase traffic and rankings to member sites.

Some posts may be reused or referenced in the Real Florists Blog, further increasing your credibility.

Terms of use
Terms are very simple: whatever you post will reflect on you and your business. Permissible topics include flowers, floristry, trade news, what's new at your shop, politics, sports, local events, grand kids - just about anything you like, since it's your personal forum.

Topics not permitted include racism, discrimination, porn and adult images, and defamatory pictures of FlowerChat Admins ;)

Please feel free to post questions in this thread.

FYI - Within 5 minutes of my original blog post a Yahoo spider was indexing the blog entry :)

So, when if I were to log out, and find Flowerchat as a consumer - where would I be? I logged out, but the blog was not visible as a non-member.
Very cool idea, by the way!
tracy

I'm also very impressed and excited by this! I'm not a current blogger, so I'm wondering too... can I link right to our own blog from our website? Do consumers need to navigate their way to it? We can add photos and all that?

Sorry for the dumb questions. Once I get up to speed I think this will be very useful and thanks so much for adding it!

Unlike the majority of the FlowerChat Forums content

Actually, it seems that most of the FC content is rather public. You can search Google for site:flowerchat.com, and you'll find all sorts of posts in the index. You can view the thread by following the Cached link.

Are you sure you aren't logged in when you view cached pages? Anytime I have ever tried I log out first and everything says "private".

Yes, 100%. You see the "Private" page with login if you click the page's link, but if you look at the Cached page, you can see the entire thread. Look below the snippet, there's a light Cached link. Click that.

You already knew this but, you're right. I didn't click on "show omitted results" which shows the actual posts here at FC. Sorry Rich, spoke before I dug deeper.

During the move to the new server and the changes in new member admissions, there were some permissions issues which coincided with the changes in new user promotions. The issue was caught earlier today.

The FC admin has requested G remove the cached pages.

*I thank the Good Lord FC is not reliant on my webmastering skills or everything we say would be blasted in capital letters across the net. ;) *

Thanks Ryan, I have been 'going to' set up a blog but you are right it was too intiminating to get started..so I just did here..but how does this link to my site unless I out my site address in every blog I do?? and will the spiders follow that link that I put in the blog??
If I post pictures etc in this blog should I link them somehow to my site??

I put up a note to remind me to add an entry to the blog each day.. something creative to make it interesting I just don't understand how this will help my site without a link daily??

Yay to Carol for getting her first post up. :)

Today in Keene there is the annual Artists in the Park which is right across the street from us. So our plaza is putting on a music day to add to the fun. Hope you get a chance to come visit. Oh! and since this is Saturday we have our Happy Flower Hour specials... all cut flowers and pre made floral arrangements are 50% off cash and carry.
Stop in and see our beautiful calla lilies direct from Holland in gorgeous colors.

You can jazz that up and make it more search engine friendly by adding links and a photo to make the post look like this:

Some folks would add even more links than I did, but I tend not to over-do, esp. on short posts.

Links are the lifeblood of the web. They help your blog readers and your business - if used well.

To add the photo (called from your site), find the original on your site, right click on the photo and select 'Properties' (bottom of the pop-up menu). Another box will pop up and you will see the URL for the photo in the area labeled "Address". Copy that address and then paste it into the 'Insert Image' box on the blog entry screen. (The same thing works to call a photo in an FC post.)

IMO, it's also much easier to read posts (in blogs and here at FC) that consist of 'paragraphs' of 1 or 2 sentences.

Cathy, thanks for the great ideas.. I got the links to work but not the picture?? I can successfully copy the url address and paste it into the pop up box but it just doesn't follow the link?? I must be doing something stupid. I click the insert image box, paste the address.. and check it to make sure it all pasted right, click ok and the box x's out?
What am I doing wrong??

Thanks again for the help with this blogging thingy

Yes,, I was able to use this address as a 'managed attachment" and upload it and it shows as a thumbnail picture in the next entry but I must be doing something out of sequence?? You only have to click the ok button after entering the address right>> and I assume you need to delete the http:// if the address pasted has that prefix right ? I tried it both ways.. maybe needs a space or something?

OK I got it I got it... I was 'left click drag highlighting' the visible part of the url address and ctrl C to copy it.. apparentely only part of the url address shows in the address line with the rest of it on top by the General heading.. I finally figured out I needed to 'ctrl left click' to highlight the hidden part (when you do the ctrl left click you see more blanks on the line... ) then ctrl c to copy it all....
Sorry to waste so much of your time probably could have pm.d you but I thought others would have the same trouble.. shows that I am not a computer geek I have always left click drag highlighted.. now I know the better way.
Thanks again.. this is a really cool way to get us all to start blogging. For those of you that like me just could n't figure it out or it just seemed too hard... this is easy and looks good.
And I like Cathy's idea of a few links and a a picture in each blog.. more interesting for real readers and maybe give the spiders something to do
