About 2 o'clock this afternoon I was sitting on my patio and felt a slight tremor, shortly thereafter my daughter called from downtown Toronto to tell me that their office tower was evacuated due to the tremor there. The epicenter was in Quebec and the phone lines are down in Montreal. Does anyone have any information ? My father-in-law is on the South Shore in Longueuil and the phones appear to be working there.

we had a good shake here as well in Hamilton area...I was sitting at my Merc, when the building started to sway, back & forth!..1:46 PM
it was rated a 5.0, and was located just north of Ottawa..........reports of damage, evacuations, and outages....

Here in London a shake was felt. I was in the back yard with a dog, enjoying the quiet. I thought a transport had trundled up the street until I learned the truth.

I was sitting in my bank managers office, in the process of signing a new loan when the earthquake hit.
I mean, really, I knew I was doing the right thing, consolidating a buch of lines of credit, etc into one loan with a lower interest rate, but to experience an earthquake while you are signing a legal loan paper?!?!...honestly, all I could do was to laugh at the sign from God. Either he thinks I did the right thing, or things are about to get a lot worse!
The office was on the ground floor, with 4 walls of glass looking outside over the gardens, and the intersection, and everything shook. The noise was awesome! Like a plane landing on the roof.
Back at the shop, the staff upstairs ran out of our wooden 160 year old building because the walls were swaying back and forth and the windows rattled alot.
In the end, just a really exciting example of the awesome power of nature, and no damage for us, but my son's college suffered quite a bit of damamge, and the downtown had some damage in higher office towers.
I felt bad for the delivery person, she said the roads were jammed and all the downtown offices evacuated all personelle into the streets, so she got caught up in a mess of people.
Thankfully, no injuries that I know of.
Ottawa is built on a major fault, so the architecture here is designed to withstand earthquakes, and we have lots of little ones. I'm not sure I can remember another 5.5 though.

We have construction going on out front of the shop and my husband and I noticed everything shaking. I thought that it was from the work being done. I asked my husband could that have been an earthquake and we didn't realize until and hour later online that it infact was tremors from the earthquake felt all the way here in Windsor. We also heard that it was felt as far as Ohio. The rest of our night was full of thunderstorms and tornado watches. Mother Nature is busy....all this in one day. I'm just happy no one was hurt and there is no damage!!!

A number of office buildings in downtown Cleveland were evacuated. We're about 20 minutes outside the city, didn't feel a thing.
