Pinterest Can Be Your Storefront in Cyberspace

One of the newest players in the world of online marketing is a website called Pinterest and because of the nature of this online community, it can lend itself particularly well to the florist business.  The sharing of things that people find beautiful is a perfect fit for photos of flowers. All you need is a way to upload photos and you can create a virtual storefront in just a few minutes.  Here is a quick guide to introduce you to the world of pins and boards.

  • Set up your Pinterest account and name your site.  This part is easy and free.  You can indicate a location and a link to your facebook page right on the Pinterest front page.
  • Create a “board” specific to the various parts of your flower shop. For intstance, you could create a board for vases, one for unusual or exotic flowers and plants, one for arrangements and another for specials. Each “board” will feature as many photos as you like.  These photos can be changed and updated at will with just a few clicks.
  • Share your Pinterest site on your other social media sites like Facebook or Foursquare.  Your customers will see a “fresh” photo of your available inventory.  They can also leave comments giving you an opportunity for direct interaction with your customers.

A recent article in Virtual-Strategy Magazine online mentions Pinterest and eCommerce.

“While Facebook can be an effective ecommerce medium, it requires a significant amount of legwork and resources. On the other hand, Pinterest is just as attractive and works well with the “shop the lifestyle” society that we live in.”

The world of online marketing is everchanging with many opportunities to reach your customer and even tantalize and intrigue them.  Photos can accomplish this and along with a tool such as Pinterest, you could be online and doing business in just a day.  Here at FloristSEO.com we are always working to insure that our florists are optimizing their online presence.  If we can help you or if you would just like to learn more, please contact us and we can explore your options.

  1. Pinterest is perfect for businesses that base their operations on the image of their product or a visual concept, and this site is based on pure visuals.

    1. Pinterest is probably MUCH better than Facebook and other, older social networks.
A shopper can actually relax while looking at photos, allowing access to their emotions. Facebook is hectic with pages of text and advertising, people posting on walls and playing games.

I’d be more likely to visit a site represented on Pinterest, than one linked through Facebook.

  2. Also, for businesses that rely on visuals and branding, Pinterest was made just for their needs. I’m starting out and I need to get used to it, because I rely heavily on Twitter.

  3. Pinterest has huge traffic right now and is an easy way to find new customers, especially if you get a pin to go viral. Many of the users on the site are women who have some spending money, making them the perfect target audience for many campaigns.

  4. Certainly, Pinterest is an exciting platform. The visuals are an effective way to capture the attention of people.

    1. That’s a great question, and we face that same issue being a service company. For service companies to succeed on Pinterest I think we need to find ways to communicate the value of our service visually. That might be infographics, comics, funny pictures, presentation slides, or some other clever idea. I also think it’s a great exercise that forces us to think about the need to communicate what we offer in a way that’s easily understood.

  5. I think there is huge potential for Pinterest. Being able to offer your services visually and the social nature of Pinterest could make for a great pairing. The very nature of social networks such of these is that chance of something you offer/sell going viral and taking off. Its very enticing indeed,as we all know how quickly an idea, picture or video can spread once viral, and for a business that is a very welcoming occurrence.

  6. I am afraid to add an additional social media application to my portfolio. I have heard great things regarding Pinterest, but have been leery to join. I like to make sure that I can dedicate to posting on sites that I join. I would hate to join Pinterest and fail to post and become actively involved. I currently have accounts with Facebook, Twitter, Four Square, Friendster, Froogle and a few others. Once I can dedicate more time and energy to social networking I will definitely Pin It.

  7. I think internet marketers should also be critical in choosing which social media to utilize for their marketing initiatives. Some social media platforms may not be suited to your product or service or to your target market. Some social media platforms may also not be complementary to your overall marketing goal.

  8. Nice introduction to the possibilities of Pinterest. One of the things to keep in mind is the profile of the average Pinterest user. I think florists can take advantage of that because many of the users are interested in that kind of service/product.

    1. I think everybody will agree that Pinterest is a promising marketing platform for florists. Since the business is largely dependent on aesthetics and appearance, pictures shared through Pinterest will surely leave a lasting impact on the audience. The pictures will be enough to spark the interest of the audience that will, hopefully, lead to a visit to the shop or a look at your portfolio.

  9. I have just recently been introduced to the benefits of Pinterest, and I’ll have to say that this social networking site is quite impressive. One thing that I’ve noticed about this site, is that people browse much more here. With Facebook, people only seem to click on something new if it is presented to them. Whereas with Pinterest, folks are actively on the hunt for things to pin.

  10. Doesn’t pinterest and instagram both the same? I know there are differences but a lot of similarities. I don’t know much about pinterest but I know a good amount about instagram.

  11. My girlfriend has a Pinterest account with over 3000 followers and she uses it to send traffic to her site which is mostly based on images. She is having a lot of success with Pinterest and has a “Pin it” button on all of her images just so it’s easier to share them.

I highly suggest everyone add this button because shares will go up dramatically once you do so! I’ve seen images going up from 20 shares per week to 2000 shares per week!
