I'm staring this thread as a place to add links of cool flower shop sites I've run across. Please feel free to add to it.

With all the sameness, it's great to see some shops that feature their own artistry and services.

http://www.bugus4flowers.com/ - Cute, clever site featuring local services of a Twin Cities area shop.

http://www.jacobmaarse.com/ Clean and gorgeous. Arrangements are displayed by style, not by occasion. Check out the Ordering area where they actually tell you if your order will be delivered by them or someone else. I like it!

http://www.podestabaldocchi.com/ Impressive (and believe it or not, it's actually a custom Teleflora template-based site.)

That's it for now.....

Nice site...great load speed, and image quality. He should make his arrangement images able to be enlarged.

I wouldn't exactly call it non-wire service since more than half of the arrangement images are owned by Teleflora.

Without a shopping cart, the site likely misses out on a decent amount of sales. Not a 'put down', just a recognition that customers shop at all hours with many preferring to order on line.

Speaking of cool sites, RC's post reminded me how well done his is - http://www.oberers.com/ . All the products are uniquely their own. Check out the wedding section, especially.

I was just going to say the same thing when I read your post.
A florist website without a shopping cart does not make much sense (to me). A person visiting your site probably wants to buy flowers now, and without a shopping cart they cannot buy from you.

My personal favorite is RC's

www.oberers.com

His site design and the beauty of his floral designs are so inspiring that he is in my Favorites list.

Another beautiful site belongs to another member of this board, GFloral.

Seems kind of jumbled in the design. And the "best sellers" are TF images.

Great Florist Web sites

I have had great luck finding interesting florist Web sites at www.dmoz.org.

Click on the Shopping link, then go to flowers, then Florists. At the top you will see world wide locations. I surf mostly in the North America area.

Dmoz is a directory that features Web sites with dynamic content. I have found florists' sites that include music and cool animations, web cams so you can see what is in their display cooler, free screensavers and e-cards, virtual bouquets and lots of individual personality. I just talked with a florist in Florida who offers a "Just for fun" area on her site, that includes coloring pages-- which it turns out is one of the most popular features of her shop as customers call or email to find out when the new pages will be added for holidays (www.edenflorist.com).

Another good one that stands out in my mind is www.cedargrovegardens.com

I'll send more if I think of them...There are some really Great Ideas out there!!

The sites listed in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Flowers/Florists/
- have unique product content that outweighs any wire service products and/or widely available images (if used.)
- are real florists with location-identifying information
- show specific products with prices
- have the ability to send orders nationally (for non-US sites, shops must be able to send out-of-country.)
- can also be listed in a Regional category in their business' city

Local full-service retail florist sites that don't meet the above criteria are listed by city in the Regional/ branch of the directory (provided that they have relevant unique content about their own business and services and include truthful location-identifying information.) http://dmoz.org/Regional/
Here are the sites listed in Toronto: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_Amer...iness_and_Economy/Shopping/Flowers_and_Gifts/

Florists that specialize in custom weddings and events and feature sites with substantial portfolios of their own work (and do not offer direct sales via their sites) are listed in http://dmoz.org/Arts/Crafts/Flowers/Designers_and_Studios/Wedding_and_Events/ . There are many great site designs there.

Floral Trade businesses and services are listed in http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Floral/ . You'll notice that FlowerChat is listed in http://dmoz.org/Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Floral/Chats_and_Forums/ :)

The Open Directory Project is the directory used by Google and is a good resource for consumers. I hope all real florists submit their sites for review.

Eden Florist

Heidi Richards is owner and a dynamic speaker, writer, marketing guru, etc, etc.
I have been subscribed to her ezine(s) for a while.

I have emailed her to invite her to the board.

Chit........."CHIT"..........wish I could start my centerpieces at $150 and $200.
yep, definitely monetarily challenged....I need to move somewhere...and work for someone else (quickly)

I hate it - Pretty, but too time consuming. I would never do an e-commerce site in Flash. Even with a "Skip" button many people aren't going to use it, but they will get mad at the delays. Unless you're selling graphics or something like that Flash is better suited for info / promo sites.

Ryan

Gotta agree with Ryan. I think Flash is curently a barrier for a home page, especially for flowers-as-a-gift sites. Weddings/Events, which can and sometimes should be more artsy, have more to gain from it. Most 'high end" sites are going to be viewed by folks with high speed connections anyway. (Or at least brides surfing from work. )

What bemuses me are the sites that take *forever* to load and then just show an inane rotating graphic of the business name. I just want to yell "Give me the info!"
