Mine is Wax. Why? I actually like the lemony smell and the varied color choices, as well as the fact that the excess greenery can be used to fill in spots.
I voted for other because I love them all...They all have great purpose...
I usually keep 5 fillers on hand at all times...usually million star, caspia, statice, monte and wax are mainstays....Then when it looks good burplerum, rainbow asters, QAL(if not sheddy), hypericum, etc...
I also selected Other as I like all of them.......My absolute favorite is Boronia ( but it is available for such a limited time ) - My second favorite is Rice Flower ( I love the strong scent )
Oddly enough, I am also a fan of gypsophila (babys breath) when it is used properly in an arrangement to accent.
daily year round - mardigras aster ( i chose monte )
Fall -Winter - calcynia or traditional heather
Spring - Boronia
Summer - field flowers from local growers - today I'm using consumer bunches as filler - coreopsis, thistle, asclepias, teeny tiny bullet allium, some chammomile looking thing - love it.
I'm a fan of fillers & like Lori keep several around all the time.
least favorite - statice. Just doesn't hold like it used to for me.
This time of year, it's bupleurum.
In Spring, it's boronia.
In Fall, it's hypericum.
In Winter, it's seeded euc (not technically a 'flower', but a great filler. )
I also use Wax & Seeded Euclyptus. I like solidago in the summer, but I find too often after only a couple of days, those little leaves turn brown. I also find that happens with the monte too.
My absolute fav is Genistra.. but it is availability is limited.. year round.. WAX.. Smells clean and fresh, holds well in heat - I like its full and clean look..
I also like Baby Breath when it is used in roundy designs..
My absolute favorite has yet to be mentioned and that is sterling range. Love, Love, love. Only available in the spring which is a bummer. I also like wax, cottage yarrow (pinks and peaches) and pink heather. We normally keep about 5 different types in the cooler most of the time.
In season my favorites are alchemilla (for lovely green color, delicate texture, and sentimental reasons, plus looks great w/ peonies which bloom at the same time! Bupleurum is not the same.) and boronia (for fabulous fuchsia color and fragrance).
But I usually go for foliage first as a filler - umbrella fern, dusty miller, polka dot dracena, lily grass.
And I can't sell solidaster to save my life! No one here wants it.
I choose other - but wax is a close 2nd- queen ann's lace, yarrow, rice flower, Love calcynia too! I have as many fillers as flowers sometimes! love the textured ones- millet, rice, safflower..and the soft flow-y ones.. oh i just like them all!
but if I had to pick one.... merlot boronia, followed by lysimacia. Oh and I like really really good red lepto, but only if it's really good!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and we don't call it "filler" anymore. We call it accessory flower OR accent flower
