Okay I see what you are saying. I have seen these done in pictures, John Henry, etc. but never in person.
The pic you posted does not seem any bigger than most of our half casket sprays though. When we do a full casket, it extends from end to end.

Beautiful spray by the way!

Joan

Joan, even when it's an open casket- they hang them above the casket lid on a stand- so it's not covering the deceased and he can be viewed :)

This isn't my favorite picture but it kind of gives you an idea of how they are set up around here.

Things are very different here, no easels, no uprights!
Just a couple of my favorite, more adventurous bits ......

treen,

I've been impressed for a long time with your specialty designs.

Could you give us a tutorial on how you do these designs?

For instance how you paint the flowers and how you get such clean lines with the flowers. I would love to learn your techniques, beautiful!

Joan, I think you are a "specialist" in funeral design. I haven't seen one yet I didn't like. Well done and thanks for sharing.

T'would be a pleasure:thumbsup

I'm up to my neck in it at the mo as I'm extending my shop so can't spare too much time right now. I have step through pics of a few bits which won't take too long to put together so I'll see what I can do.

I have a lovely new studio in my new shop which I hope to use for workshops at some point ........ watch this space:smoke

This is a great thread! Your design styles differ so much from those popular here in the uk. We rarely have to deal with bevel top coffin and our funeral cars (hearse) have limited head room which means all our coffin top designs have a maximum height restriction of about a foot.

Here's a couple of my coffin tops ........ so different

your work is CRAZY AMAZING!!!!
How long does it take you to make one of these from start to finish?
What type of price do you charge for something like theses.
Such talent. Thank you everyone for sharing pictures, very inspiring!!!!!

here's a couple of specialty pieces I've done.
Those are amazing Randy & Treen!
Randy, love the use of the cello roll inner plastic end pieces, as the center of the wheels on the flower bike! :headbang:

Now buy that flip video camera and show us how you create these!!!LOL

These we did for a man who owned a Rock Shop in the area. LOVED the purple quartz. We had matching side pieces with purple quartz book ends.

I too enjoy making casket sprays. I guess you have to look at it as a way to provide a bright spot for a family that is shell-shocked and grieving. My hope is that they would find some comfort in the lovely flowers and personal touches that I try to incorporate into my casket sprays. I will always remember when my father passed away many years ago now how comforted I was by the many beautiful arrangements sent by so many caring people. Our family walked around several times during visitation and read and re-read each and every card. It was a much needed stress reliever. I just wish that those who request no flowers be sent could take one moment and think about how important it is for the rest of us to be able to express our own grief by sending a beautiful floral arrangement to say what we can't always put into words. Out of respect, most florists don't post funeral work on their web pages but that doesn't mean it's not an important part of what we do.

So I did this ficus tree for a funeral today... I used some wrapping normally reserved for wedding work.. I ran out of flowers (yes it happens here in the country!) .. and this customer wanted something different.. so -

Beautiful work ! It's sad to say to goodbye to someone so young. Reminds me of my cousin who passed away last month at only 23 years of age *( The flowers were so nice at the funeral. May He rest in peace!

Thanks to all of you that create such beautiful work and help a family with some beautiful flowers to surround them and remind them that they're not alone. God Bless all you do!

Last week we had 2 young brothers (both adults) killed in a boating accident. They were wellknown and much loved in the area. A salesperson from one of my vendors called with a request from her son-in-law... he wanted flowers done in the shape of a marlin (fish) as one of the men was a professional fisherman.
Well, sure we can do it, I said. After google searches and discussion with a friend, who works with a lot of graphic design, we came up with a workable picture of a marlin. We scaled it up in size and yesterday delivered a marlin jumping from the water.
