The Winter Olympics Thread

Somebody note my totally PC response to this one.

Had this argument with my wife & two daughters.

They say celebrate all you want ladies.

I say yes, BUT DO IT BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.

Bad example for the "grassroots" young women entering the sport, especially considering that there are 18 year olds on the team who are underaged drinkers.

(...I guess I'm just getting old...sounding like my Dad!!)

I get what you're saying - and really disagree the the drinking age being more than 18. Those folks are old enough to join the military, be tried as 'adults' in court, be held responsible for every action, but not deemed 'responsible enough' to have a beer. The law just makes most young adults 'law breakers' and not better citizens.

When I was in charge of the flower shop in the Olympic Village in Atlanta, I saw plenty of stuff that never got reported to the news media. What these girls did was mild compared to many situations I witnessed.

We had a terrible time with athletes stealing other peoples credit cards and just plain stealing anything they could get their hands on. I saw open sex happening on the compound, etc.

I don't mean to put all of the athletes down because there are more good ones with high morales than many of the ones I ran into.

get a life, they were partying on the ice AFTER everyone left the building, the ice "belonged" to them, and for the most part, it was NOBODY'S business, where they partied.
just because some deprived media hucksters decided it would make a good "negative" story, I think that THAT PRESS needs to get a life too!

My Dad... who would be really old if he were still here, would say, "Let them have their fun... they earned it".

Mike I'm amused by some of the foreign press coverage of our Olympics.

It's looking like the CANUSA games....

With the US having the most medals at a Winter Olympics, and the Canadians having the most GOLDS we be rock'n da house... how'd Germany get in between us?

Men's hockey today is the North American Championship game... Canada/USA.... someone will get GOLD~!

Dang things on at 3, same time as the NASCAR race in Lost Wages...

I can see I won't be getting much work done this afternoon~!

No matter what happens today, I'm so very proud of all our Olympic Atheletes, volunteers and Canada in general.

Patriotism has come out of its shell and has swept us like a kinder tsunami from coast to coast to coast.

I didn't watch the game (just checked in now and again), but both teams played outstanding hockey. :)

Congratulations Canada!!! For winning great games and providing such a great venue. You have made the world proud!

Thank you so much Susan. We are indeed a proud nation. :)

I'm sort of dissapointed in the USA Hocky team. Not because they didn't get the gold, but because of their demeanor after the game.

WTH- They act like receiving their silver medals was like getting poop on a rope!
Silver medals is good!

The US women reacted in much the same manner.

I can't imagine how difficult it is for them to, within a matter of minutes, change their demeanor from ice aggression to accepting a difficult loss. The interviews after the game showed their true colours and you should be proud of them. :)

watched the closing ceremonies to the end, what a classy show, what a wonderful outcome, and the "true highlite", was when the cameras panned our troops in Afganistan, there was a poster that read something like "we're friends in arms, NOT so much on the ice"...just before the hockey game....I had it memorized, but, you get the gist.
I cannot even imagine to go from the euphoria of tying the game with 24 seconds left to losing the game to Sid the Kid, for the US Team, and I STILL firmly believe, that Ryan Miller is THE BEST goalie on the planet!!
