Shut out all of your past except that which will help you weather your tomorrows.

- William Osler, Canadian physician

Remembering the good times, learning from the bad

Memory can be used for good or for evil. If you use your past as a source of learning, it's worth remembering. If, however, all you do is mull over your mistakes and punish yourself for your failures, it's a waste of time. Rehashing failure can paralyze you in mortal fear of making another mistake, which, of course, just makes the feeling worse and practically guarantees future letdowns. The key to making meaningful changes is to pay more attention to the future than to the past. Have you ever noticed that the best athletes also have the shortest and most selective memories? Instead of dwelling on a missed shot or a flawed dive, they concentrate on making corrections and getting the next one right. It's as if the failed attempt never happened. It's forgotten and they don't fear trying again. If you mess up, even in an epic, life-altering way, work hard to leave it behind and concentrate on the possibilities yet to come. Tomorrow is much brighter when it's not smeared with a fixation on yesterday

This should give you pause... Yipes.

Ruby Tuesday's Loaded Cheese Fries (appetizer)
Johnny Rockets Cheese Fries (starter)

Scroll Down to See The Winner

Whose cheese fries should you order as a starter?

Your weekends are probably like those of many other busy people--a little unstructured, but pretty busy, and filled with more dining out than usual. You're with your family or close friends, trying to decide what to order for your appetizer. Granted, appetizers are meant to be shared, but unless you're dividing them up evenly, you really don't know how much you're consuming. Cheese fries are popular choices, available at most sit-down restaurants. Obviously, they're not diet-friendly, but just how bad can one weekend splurge be? Pick the cheese fries that will do less caloric damage.

The Lower-Cal Winner
Johnny Rockets Cheese Fries

Not even cheese fries are created equally! Johnny Rockets wins the calorie and fat battle this round, weighing in at 760 calories, 43 grams of fat, and 17 grams of saturated fat (that's 85% of your upper limit for one day!). Just because they're lower in calories than Ruby Tuesday's Cheese Fries (1,216 calories, 72 grams of fat!) doesn't mean they're a good choice. If you MUST order fries, do so sans the cheese and you'll save 229 calories and 20 grams of fat at Johnny Rockets. Also, split this appetizer with at least 3 others, bringing your serving of American Fries (no cheese) to 133 calories and 6 grams of fat.
