To help the knee have you tried strengthening the quadriceps?

I used leg weights strapped to my ankles and did lift and holds while watching T.V. it works.

Hi Doug... actually the weights exacerbated the problem, as did pilates. I'm finding swimming and walking to be the best "cure" for the moment. I see a specialist on the 24th of this month so I'll have more information then.

Thanks Doug. :)

Unfortunately that will cost money I don't have. But I'll keep it in mind for the future. Thanks Ryan. :)

Just got back from the Gastric bypass doc....

I lost 5 more lbs for a total of 70lbs....I need to drop my A1C by .3 or we will have to postpone my surgery....

I must follow a very strict lower than low carb, low fat high protein diet for the next 26 days.....

Wish me luck...I have already started this last week and I am starving....

What is your A1C? I know the best herbalist, and she knows what herbs/vitamins help everything!!!! I would gladly ask her if there is anything natural that might help you win your fight. She is a genius!

It is 8.1 and needs to be under 8...not far to go but if I cheat at all it could skew the numbers....any help at all would be great...

How about Florist Fighting the Fluff !!

O.K I am finally getting a chance to post...

Like Navybrat I never really had to worry about my weight. I am 5'2" and since the time I became an adult (after children) I have weighed between 125-135 not to bad. Most people would not call that fat and either would I except that around my family I always felt huge. My mom is 4'11" and tiny, my sisters 5' and my other sister 5' 1" and I have two brothers who are also skinny. No one has any fat on them at all !! Anyways, I have felt fat most my life just being around them.

2 year ago I went on Topomax for migraine headaches, I lost 11lbs in one week, I had to force myself to eat. Anyways, I had to keep increasing my dosage, I had go off of them because the cost per month got to be to high, my memory was failing me to much and my hair started falling out. Yes, the hair falling out in clumps was the deciding factor, vain I know. O.K. so I go off of it and I am happy to say that I had no weight gain for 6 months, than bam! all of a sudden I start gaining weight.

20lbs in 4months, I weigh 148 right now, it is ridiculous. I just don't get it. Nothing has changed, I do not eat anymore than I used to, I do not work out any less, I do not eat sweets only very occasionally as sugar gives me more migraines, I do not eat packaged foods, or canned anything. Chips and dip I love but only indulge in a couple times a month.

So I am thinking pre-menopause??? I am 44 years old, is this how it starts??? Advise needed!!!

Navybrat, I still have those size 2,4,6's in my closet and @@@@ it, I am going to wear them again!!

Ok, Ok, Boys can be allowed. I just thought you wouldn't want to hear it.

Thanks infinite one!!

The women rule, hands down !

If the men can't support the women, well heck, we may as well fold up and go fishing .

I showed Quarter Horses so my knees are shot & my ankles are not much better due to the years of riding & injuries related to the sport. I can relate to your issue. The best exercises are the pool & walking. To lose weight a bit more rapidly you need to really work your upper legs. Exercising large muscles = more calorie & fat burning.

Try weraing a knee brace or wrap during your walking, it helps me.

Happy thoughts are sent your way!

I've been on my liquid diet (very low carbs, very high protien) for 19 days today. I promise it does get easier! I still have not cheated...trust me, that is such a challenge for me too! It is pure determination to better my lifestyle. YOU CAN DO IT!

Both my inlaws had GB surgery. My father-in-law did it for his diabetes. He has really kept down the weight & his health has greatly improved!

I've posted to this thread 3 times and everytime I get ready to submit it, it disappears.

Anyway, I would definitely be a part of this. I have yo yoed my entire life. I have tried every diet know to mankind. I'm sure it is just like all the rest of your stories. I also have 2 bad knees, currently I am getting cortisone shots every 4 months. My dr. is trying to buy me a few years before knee replacement surgery as he thinks I am too young.. lol

I am really interested in the liquid diet. I did try it about a year ago, but wasn't in the right mind frame to stay on it. I think I could now. Flowerdiva, I think you said yours was dr supervised? I ordered the new lifestyle products, it isn't dr. supervised, but there is a great support forum for it. Have you ever heard of it? What do you think?

I'm no expert, but it could be. Although 44 is kind of young for that. I am 43 and I am going through it, but that is rare. It usually begins in your early 50's. But I can tell you that you feel like you are falling apart, like everything is going wrong. It is harder for me to lose weight.
Are you having hot flashes or night sweats? Have you skipped periods or noticed a change?

For those of you looking for a good shake (liquid) diet, Shaklee makes a great product called cinch. 2 shakes a day, herbal tea, snack bars, and one balanced real food meal that you prepare yourself. It is a great program that I personally know several people who have lost a lot of weight and have been able to keep it off.

Joan,

I assume you are talking about the SAF convention? You do not have to be a member of SAF to attend. I included a link on the thread. Check it out! Would love to have some fun with you in Florida! Let us know if you'll be going! I would love to see lots of FC'ers at this event! We will party! OK...I know I will!

Congrats to you, too! 4 pounds in 12 days is a significant weight loss. I have lost 13 pounds each month...that rocks!

FOOD SHOWDOWN. (I'm not familiar with many of these places as they aren't in my area, but the information is always interesting. :)) V

Don Pablo's Dogs in a Blanket (from the "Little Amigos" menu, includes Tater Tots)
Bob Evans Mini Cheeseburgers (from the Kids menu, includes smiley face potatoes)

Scroll Down to See The Winner

Do kid-sized portions really offer fewer calories?

Many times, ordering from a kids menu can ensure that you're eating a normal adult size portion, which usually means fewer calories. Which of these menu options, each geared towards kids, is lower in calories?

The Low-Cal Winner
Bob Evans Mini Cheeseburgers with smiley potatoes

As a whole, this meal contains 594 calories. While that's a lot for a kid, it is one of the lowest calorie options on the menu. Unfortunately, it's also high in fat--54 grams, 5 of which are saturated. The Don Pablo's option is not healthy for a kid or an adult. This meal contains 1,248 calories and 78 grams of fat (and an artery-clogging 34 grams of saturated fat)! Remember--smaller portions don't always mean fewer calories. Look for key menu words and pick the leanest food, which usually means nothing deep fried, including tater tots.

I'm back on my walking routine and what a difference it has made. You'd think I'd get it by now for heaven sake. I love walking and the best time is first thing in the morning.

I moved this weekend and the sweat equity alone was worth a couple of pounds. ;) Saturday my pedometre clocked 13km (about 17,000 steps) and Sunday I only walked 11k. ;) At anyrate I am tired and exhilarated and so happy with the view from my new apartment.
