Which liquid diet are you on? I'm on the New Direction program (doctor supervised). Third time on it. First time lost 20 pounds...took a break...went back, lost 40 pounds...took a break, had a baby, tried to do it myself... now I'm back!

This, as you know is a diet for the serious & desperate! I really like it though. Immediate results & lots of energy!

Here's a link to my diet program... www.mdbethin.com I would recommend the program to anyone who is serious about losing weight. I would not, however, call it desperate. I truly believe if you can "jump start" the weight loss and lose a lot of weight quickly, it gives you more incentive to continue to lose the pounds. When you see those pounds come off so quickly, it encourages you to go further and obtain your goal. I have tried every weight loss program out there. Just wish I had found this one first. The 6 week program was 4 shakes or soup per day, plus a really yummy snack bar. Dam* how I look forward to those snack bars! Lots of water, which I love anyway, and a list of "free" foods. Fortunately, I don't drink alcohol...no problem with that one. I also attend a lot of social functions...I am a member of every group under the sun, but I just take my shake or eat the salad, chicken and veggies...and not a lot. My calorie intake at this point is 1,000 daily. On the 6 week program it was 800. You really, really have to remember that you will always be attending this party, or this function, or some other event where others will be indulging in food that is off limits for you. If you can't resist the food at these events, just "sample" small tastings, and be sure to eat before you attend. BTW-this is really true...if you think you're hungry-drink a glass of water...usually you're dehydrated and NOT really hungry. Try the water first before eating.

Now this is funny...I asked the Doc, "What the H is in those shakes?" I suddenly have this sexual drive that is out of control! That started the very first week, not after I lost weight. The Doc said she has only had one other patient say the same thing...and that was a man whose wife was on the same diet. My libido is off the charts! I thought it might have something to do with menopause, but at age 53, I am still getting my "friend" (I like to call it, "NOT MY FRIEND!!!") every 28 days. Good God! Make my "friend" disappear! My Doc claims it is very "healthy" for a woman my age to still menstruate, but I am at my wits end! Just the very thought of getting pregnant at my age is totally alarming! Side Note: Nothing to worry about with that possibility at the moment! Single and quite possibly a born again virgin! My daughter thinks it would be fun to be pregnant together! WTF? I usually adore her sense of humor, but that just ain't funny!

Please...please...take my best advice...do it for YOU! An absolute must...pack up those clothes when you lose a size! It really works!

lol Thanks for the post! When I meant desperate, I meant ME! When I was pregnant I only gained 25 pounds...my OB & I were so proud! However, nobody, and I mean NOBODY, tells you the additional weight you'll gain after the birth! Tyler's 2 am feedings became my ice cream binges! Aack! Poof! Magically appears 15 more pounds!

Thank goodness I lost so much weight before I got pregnant! Plus, I had been learning how to eat again & I credit that to my minimal weight gain during pregnancy.

Here's my issue with the tossing of the fat clothes... since Tyler was born, I only had to buy 2 pairs of jeans & 3 shirts everything else is maternity clothes. ABSOLUTELY not problem getting rid of that stuff! I'm looking forward to it!!!

Your diet sounds just like mine...yay! Someone I can relate too! Except the libido thing that is. :wide:

You are soooo very adorable! Forgive me for misunderstanding the "desperate" comment. I truly meant no disrespect! Funny stuff with the maternity clothes! Again, I cannot express enough the importance of dumping your "fat" clothes! It's so rejuvenating to your spirit and soul!
Please feel free to share with me about our liquid lifestyle! Bummer that you're not experiencing the libido gig...maybe you should switch to my shakes! Yummy! and mmmmmmm on the libido thing!

I really like having a support group but the whole weighing in thing is a wee bit scarry.
Other than that, I'm on board!!! My ankles hurt a lot. :(

I have one foot/ankle/leg that hurts all the time....at the holidays it gets so tired I trip on it because I can no longer pick it up properly.....

Doc prescribed nortryptilene for it and it helps right from the hip to the heel with the pain...

I have been thinking lately that Flowerchat might be a good place to talk to other women about pre-menopause and weight gain but have been afraid to post anything about it because it is so off topic and there are so many men around here that I'm sure do not want to read this this stuff. Hell, I'm not even sure I would be comfortable with them reading it. Maybe we could have our own little forum here to discuss problems that become work related, like these, but that is a place just for women.
I don't know about others but the whole monthly cycle, weight fluctuation, mood swings certainly is a work topic for women.

wild flowers Chicago I have some personal experience with dealing with children and their weight. If you want to talk PM me.

So many great thoughts Joan.. and so pertinent to lots of us. ;) I do believe this is a great place to discuss all of it... and if men view it that's okay by me. They may be empowered by the knowledge we share. So many guys I know are baffled by us and what we go through at various stages in our lives. Perhaps this will help them move from the dark.

I'm in menopause now and I'm crediting lots of exercise and healthier eating with the easier path I'm having than many of my friends. My doctor, years ago, before I even thought of menopause, recommended Evening Primrose Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Black Cohash and Grape Seed Oil. I take them every day. I have very few flashes, mood swings not so much, and when I have them they are fast and furious and over. It's the weight issue that's really bugging me... oh and the sore joints. ;)

At any rate Joan thank you for opening up this area for discussion.

My husband has the same afflicion as Ryan's wife, only he doesn't cook. He actually had to go up a pants size last year, that means his acid washed high school jeans might be a little too tight, boo hoo!
Hey! For some of us, gaining weight is just as hard/big a problem as losing is for others...

I eat probably 20,000 calories a day and can't gain a pound, and I'd LOVE to be able to gain 30....skinny is not all it's cracked up to be!

Count me in !! I'd love to be able to talk with other women about this. At 43 I am going through this (have been for a year) and since it is early for me to have these issues, I have no one to talk too other than my mother. I have no problem with the men viewing maybe they would benefit from it. I spend my days running in and out of my cooler too!! We're luckey we can do that, if I had to be in an office, I'd DIE !!
There's just so much to it other than the flashes. Support would be great!!

A couple of thoughts... first yeah for you Biscotti! :) You want a celebrity name... someone who denotes strength of character and belief and never giving up... and winning the war. :) Any names come to mind out there.

While I was walking one of my charges early this morning (clocked 3000 steps), I realised that men have many health issues that women don't get either. So having men on board here is a great idea for all who wish to participate.

Next, for me I was thrilled when I reached a size 10. That is my ultimate goal. I don't want to be invisible, I want to be a healthy size for me. A size I can manage and maintain without thinking I'm in a concentration camp. I'm learning that numbers are not necessarily my friend (unless they have dollar signs and are coming my way).

When I started this journey I was 204 pounds, and I'm 5'1" (with a bit). After my 10 k I reached 154 and was so proud and happy with how I felt and looked. My doctor was delighted with my progress and pronounced me "healthy".

I have gained 15 pounds because of my knee (at least that's the excuse I've given myself). I'm back walking regularly because of the dogs I walk and the knee is holding up reasonably well... I need to keep moving.

So, I am accountable again to me... and I look forward to sharing with all of you and being a support as needed or wanted. :)

This is a great thread, gals & guys!

Unlike many of you, I never struggled with my weight until I reached my 40's. Prior to that, I ate whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. For me, it was hard to understand the weight gain, since I never had the problem. It made it really difficult to give up foods I always ate without gaining an ounce.

I can relate to this; I was super skinny till my late 20's when I moved to Wisconsin. Yes I am blaming the cheese. :hammer:
Anyway I will be up for joining any weight loss chat. I want to lose about 20 pounds to start and probably more but I'm 40 now so I don't expect to be at my high-school size ever again.

I would just like to say congrats to you all for speaking up and letting out in words your frustrations on the battle of the bulge....

I find that if you can talk openly and honestly about what your problem is it helps to get past it....Sometimes we treat weight issues as the elephant in the room and that does nothing but make you feel isolated. Ignoring a weakness is the easiest way for it to take over your life....I ignored my weight for a many good years, told myself it didn't bother me, kept myself active and pretty healthy for my size, but I was ignoring the elephant and sweeping the problem under the rug....

Back in 2003, when I got pregnant and was very happy to be and realizing for the first time that I and my hubby really wanted a family and then lost it all because of my weight and diabetes...I could no longer ignore the elephant....That is when I started to get serious about how and what I ate and admit to myself that unless I made some serious changes I would not get the family I want and my life would not be exactly up to my own standards... It takes a lot of courage to own up to yourself that you have weaknesses and faults and I commend each and evry one of us for taking responsibilty for ourselves....it is also a lot harder to take good care of yourself when you are so used to taking care of others and we are worth it...

Ok - so we need a cool name for our Social Group.

Florists Fight Fat

Any ideas??

V is it chondromalacia?

...

"because of my knee (at least that's the excuse I've given myself)"...:)

To help the knee have you tried strengthening the quadriceps?

I used leg weights strapped to my ankles and did lift and holds while watching T.V. it works.

There is another technique to aid in dieting.

At night right before you go to sleep (it's the same as a hypontic state). You can give yourself suggestions. I am a healthy eater. I weigh my ideal weight. I like low carb food. I eat less sugar. Etc...

This can work for any aspect of your life you are trying to change. I used it when I lost 50 pounds 20 yrs ago. I never went back to my old eating habits and kept the weight off.

I LOVE this one. :) I've never liked the word diet. Look at what the first three letters spell. ;)

So my vote is for FC Lite. :)
